Steve Dawson is a Nashville-based musician, songwriter, producer, and recording engineer. Originally from Canada, he relocated from Vancouver to Nashville in 2013 and has since built a career centered on records that value feel, tone, and intention. Steve has received 7 Juno Awards for his work as an artist and producer, among many other accolades.
He works across roles - as an artist, producer, and session player, with a focus on serving the song and creating an environment where musicians can do their best work.
Musical Approach
Steve’s work is rooted in acoustic and electric traditions, with particular depth in steel guitar, slide guitar, and roots-based music. His approach emphasizes listening, restraint, and musical choices that support the emotional core of a song rather than drawing attention to themselves.
Whether producing, mixing, or contributing as a player, the goal is always clarity, feel, and honesty.
Production & Studio Work
Steve is the owner and operator of The Henhouse Studio in East Nashville, where he produces and records projects ranging from single songs to full albums. The studio is designed to feel welcoming and musician-friendly, supporting a creative process that is focused but unpressured.
Artists work with Steve both in person and remotely, often combining roles across production, session work, and mixing.
